This event will be a great opportunity for Atikokan to learn about how we can use our cultural heritage in community economic development and healthy living. Our community has a diverse range of cultural interests ranging from the fine arts, athletics, to outdoor adventure. We will look at the many aspects of our community’s cultural heritage and identify some common themes that we could use in tourism and community revitalization.

This workshop will be a great opportunity to gain a ‘big picture’ understanding of culture’s emerging role in community economic development. Of particular note, the lunch hour will feature speaker, Dan Taylor, Economic Development Officer for Prince Edward County. In his presentation, Mr. Taylor will share the challenges Prince Edward County faced when its industries began to decline and how the community looked to culture for an answer. You will have the chance to learn how culture drives downtown revitalization and cultural tourism and see how the first stages of Municipal Cultural Planning unfold in practice.

This one-day workshop will be focused on Municipal Cultural Planning and how communities can implement this practice at the community level. Although Dryden hasbeen chosen as the site for this event the event is for all of northwestern Ontario.
This forum will be a great opportunity to gain a ‘big picture’ understanding of culture’s emerging role in community economic development. You will learn how culture drives downtown revitalization and cultural tourism. The Forum will provide a mixture of presentations, workshops and panelists to give you the chance to learn about good practices from experts with area examples. This will be the perfect opportunity to share your
